USG Corporation Plant Engineer in Fort Dodge, Iowa

  1. The Plant Engineer is a development role with the expectation of succession into a Department Manager Role within a 12-18 month period.

    1. Incorporate safety into all aspects of the department and ensure safe working conditions during all activities associated within the manufacturing environment. Accountable for maintaining a high level of safety including compliance with all Corporate and regulatory safety guidelines.

    2. Future responsibilities include supervision of 2 salaried foremen, 2 salaried direct reports and 33 hourly employees responsible for all JT&T and Industrial Product manufacturing and Plant Supply Chain operations.

    3. Accountable for insuring that manufactured products meet all USG and UL requirements including proper controls to insure compliance. Responsible for monitoring day to day process activity and recommend improvements to reduce variation and maximize efficiency to include waste, speed, delay and raw material usage.

    4. Manages the coordination, implementation and standardization of manufacturing process improvements. Responsible for supporting new technology, implementing trials, and working with plant personnel, Corporate Technical Services, and CIC to optimize processes.

    5. Develops the technical, operational knowledge and leadership skills of department foremen, supervisors, and hourly employees. Spearheads LEAN, RPM, Directions, and other continuous improvement efforts in the department.

    6. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with prior experience as a Project Engineer.

    7. Self-starter with excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities. Able to learn the operation quickly and adapt to the organizational needs of the department and its people.

    8. Business minded, people and results oriented, with a strong emphasis on safety and quality. Possess strong communication and leadership skills to be able to foster collaboration across different departments or disciplines to meet objectives.

    9. Candidate must demonstrate strong analytical skills, understand data collection, statistics and recognize relationship between various process functions. Trained in the lean six sigma methodology preferred.

    10. Demonstrated the ability to operate within a planned budget and hold costs within established goals.

    11. V alues coaching and utilizes critical feedback to influence change at an individual and team level. Previous experience with REAL Performance, Vertical Directions Program, and coaching is a plus.
