USG Corporation Purchasing Manager - Ceilings Plus (Los Angeles) in Los Angeles, California

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for all functions pertaining to the Purchasing Department including issuing material purchase orders in accordance with project and engineering requirements, along with coordinating material delivery schedule in order to meet customer ship dates. Job duties and responsibilities:

  • Effectively lead Purchasing Department. Oversees approximately 1-3 employees. Responsible for training, motivating and maintaining a level of safety for all department employees to provide for an efficient operation, consistent with overall company safety objectives.

  • Overview RTP packages for completeness.

  • Accountable for the management and operation of purchase orders for production needs (raw materials, etc.).

  • An ability to proactively develop and implement specific strategies to meet inventory and raw material goals. Responsible for ensuring departments are following all established procedures.

  • Responsible for establishing, monitoring and maintaining appropriate inventory levels for raw materials and general supplies for production. Overview coil inventories. Maintain and improve “in house” inventories levels. Coordinate year end inventories.

  • Must interact frequently and effectively with production, engineering, technical services, research, sales and customers to determine material needed for product specifications and maximize product reliability and acceptance. Overview material receipt date to ensure schedules are meet; production has material to run; and customer ship dates are held.

  • Research special materials or outsourcing needs.

  • Strong communication (verbal and written) skills. Ability to listen and influence.

  • Detail oriented, organized and ability to multitasks/prioritize on various tasks. Ability to summarize information and communicate effectively.

  • Must be a team player

  • Strong math skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Purchasing or Supply Chain or similar program

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing or purchasing environment.

  • Thorough understanding of general purchasing guidelines.

  • Knowledge of ISO9001 requirements and concepts. Must have analytical and computer ability to manage ISO documentation.

  • Ability to analyze and decipher architectural specifications and drawings

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, etc.) and Smartsheet
